Minnesota Legislature is in session. Let’s Get Rolling!

We had a good first year!  However, this is an important year for the Film Production Tax Credit, as we try to make it more competitive and more attractive for producers to bring their episodic and film projects to Minnesota. Check back here for regular updates!

As soon as possible

Do these 2 things:

  1. Find out who your state representatives are

  2. Follow the Minnesota Film Alliance

#1 Who Represents Me?

Everyone interested in growing the film tax credit should begin with finding out who their state representatives are HERE:

  1. Search your address and your reps will appear.  This will also include U.S. reps.  You only need to focus on MN reps.

  1. Access their respective House and Senate profile pages by clicking on the Contact link next to their name.

  1. Bookmark or save their pages to reference throughout the session.

  1. Their profile page will also list their committee assignments.  In our work to grow the tax credit this session we are focusing on two specific committees (listed below). Reaching out to all reps is important, but if your reps sit on either of these two committees they are the gatekeepers concerning the success of our efforts.

The committees where our bill will be submitted are:

House Taxes Committee

Senate Taxes Committee

THAT’S IT!

At this time we are not requesting that people reach out to their reps, only that they find out who their reps are and what committees they sit on.  This will prepare you to move quickly when those Calls to Action and talking points come as the session progresses.

#2 Follow the Minnesota Film Alliance

The Minnesota Film Alliance is a state-wide non-profit trade association that represents Minnesota’s film, episodic & digital content production industry.  MFA advocates on behalf of the individuals and companies involved in all aspects of the production of film, TV and digital media in Minnesota, and helps provide a robust and sustainable business environment for the production industry.

Anyone with a stake in seeing increased episodic and film production come to Minnesota can, and should be a member.

It’s important to remember the Alliance is not a PO Box or group you hear from every legislative session.  The Alliance is a group, or community with the shared interest of seeing that Minnesota is an ongoing location for film and episodic production.
